Avtomobilist skated to an overtime win in Riga, going eight points clear at the top of the Eastern Conference thanks to a Francis Pare goal. The Canadian’s 15th of the season, and his first since Dec. 21, was enough to separate the teams after a hard-fought game in Latvia.
It took some time for the deadlock to be broken. After two periods without a goal, the teams traded two in quick succession. Dan Sexton gave Avtomobilist the lead in the 48th minute, only for Mathew Maione to tie it up two minutes later. Sexton moved onto 44 (21+23) points in this game, producing a game-winning display to snap a four-game spell without scoring.
Riga takes one point from the game and is three points behind HC Sochi in the race for the last playoff spot in the West.
