Spartak decamped to Mytishchi, playing a run of games in Atlant’s old arena on the outskirts of Moscow, and the new surroundings inspired the team to victory. However, Dinamo made it hard for the host, twice tying the game in the third period before going down in a shoot-out.

A power play goal for Dmitry Kalinin seconds before the first intermission was all that separated the teams for much of this game. Dinamo tied it up in the 49th minute through Brandon McMillan and the teams traded goals in the space of two minutes before the end of the game. Artyom Fyodorov restored Spartak’s lead, Kevin Clark responded with an assist from fit-again Linus Videll, Riga’s most dangerous forward.

In the shoot-out, Ilya Zubov converted the first attempt to tip the scales towards Spartak. Robin Hanzl potted a second for the host and Mathew Maione’s successful effort was not enough to save the Latvians.
